Liangjiang New Area was recently honored as a municipal level demonstration base by Chongqing Municipality for its work on military-civil integration, liangjiang.gov.cn reported.
High tech companies in Liangjiang New Area are involved in research and manufacture of weapons, with nine companies licensed for military appliances.
Chang’an Automobile integrates military and civil industries and is a backbone of the New Area’s automobile industry. It has annual revenue of 150 billion yuan, pays 10 billion yuan of taxes and employs 46,000 people.
The area also has service centers providing information, technology and consulting , as well as laboratories of Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
“Combining science with themarket will enhance companies’ core competitiveness,” said a representative of the New Area’s administrative committee. The area seeks to become a pioneer of technology for military-civil industries.
The area will continue integrating military and civil industries in the coming five years.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
