The daily volume of cargo handled at ports in Liangjiang has reached a new high, according to statistics released by Chongqing Port Logistics Group.
The increase in productivity falls in line with concerted efforts by authorities to develop transportation infrastructure in the area in recent years. Liangjiang's Guoyuan Port has 16 berths and an annual capacity of 300 million tons of cargo.
Guoyuan Port Cargo Company, an important cargo operator at the port, processed a record 16,330 tons of cargo in a single day, statistics show.
According to a senior from Guoyuan Port Cargo Company, Guoyuan Port is a combined water, railway and road transport hub. The company's cargo processing ability is expected to be further enhanced through the optimization of cargo handling process.
The construction plan revealed by Chongqing Municipal Government shows that the city will invest 18 billion yuan ($2.82 billion) during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20) to promote the city's logistics industry.
