To further develop Liangjiang's smart city construction, smart traffic lights will be put into operation in the crossroads around Liangjiang's Chongqing International Expo Center at the end of November.
The smart traffic light system is an important part of the city's implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT) and intelligent transportation initiatives.
Equipped with a semaphore, the smart traffic lights can send real time traffic information to the traffic-monitoring center. After the data is analyzed, an optimized traffic lights order will direct the traffic.
According to Zhang Yong, an engineering director from Chongqing International Expo Center, the installation of smart traffic lights systems around the center has been completed and will put into operation at the end of this month.
"The smart traffic light system has also connected with the expo center's parking system. It is expected to help direct parking next year," said Zhang.
As the country's first inland state-level development zone, Liangjiang has been designated as a pilot area to promote the construction of a smart city.
According to the Liangjiang administrative committee, the construction of a smart city will help the area to improve its services and supporting facilities to attract more talent and enterprises.
Liangjiang was set up as one of the first batch of smart city construction pilot projects by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development in 2013.
Since then, authorities in the area have been working on improving governmental management standards and public service abilities to promote smart city construction.
