A man seeking a divorce in Chongqing municipality complained that his 64-year-old mother-in-law had too much control over his wife and their finances.
The woman, Chen Rong, apparently thought her 35-year-old daughter, a senior manager at a company, was weak in character, so she controlled her daughter's 250,000 yuan annual salary and only gave the husband 50,000 yuan per year.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
