Valentine's Day is traditionally a day for romance, but 549 couples in Chongqing municipality decided the day was just right to end their marriages.
According to the city's civil affairs department, by 5 pm on Sunday, 4,788 couples had their marriages registered but 549 couples divorced.
Staff at the civil affairs department said the week-long holiday had been the last straw for the couples who demanded a divorce at the first opportunity after the break.
