Chongqing recently released an overseas studies white paper, Chongqing Evening reported.
In recent years, non-English speaking countries such as Germany and France have gained popularity among Chinese mainland students. Germany, for example, is favored because it offers good teaching quality with zero tuition fees.
Students applying to UK and US universities are more concerned with the international ranking of the universities while students applying to non-English speaking countries pay more attention to the ranking of the majors.
The white paper studied the preference of families in terms of destinations.
Younger students such as high-school students are more concerned about security, while graduates and undergraduates pay more attention to the length of their program.
For example, the postgraduate programs in UK and Australia are very popular among mainland students for their relatively short study term, which is usually one year. A shorter term means lower costs.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
