The General Administration of Customs recently approved Chongqing as the first pilot city for international railway freight transportation, Chongqing Evening reported.
"We have successfully operated direct freight of parcels from Chongqing municipality to Russia and we are trying to launch Yuxinou Railway Freight Transport in June to link Chongqing to Duisburg, Germany," said Liao Tao, general manger of the Chongqing Branch of China Post.
"We are considering a new type of express delivery which is lower in price than China Post international parcels and faster in delivery compared with ordinary parcels," Liao went on to say.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
