Driving in the mountain city of Chongqing can be an ordeal for both the car and the driver. But the unique terrain provides a perfect test track for intelligent vehicles.
The Intelligent Vehicle Integrated Systems Test Area (i-VISTA) opened in the Liangjiang New Area of Chongqing Municipality on Nov 15, providing a simulated city environment for intelligent vehicles tests.
The area has 50 different testing environments, allowing manufacturers, universities, and research institutes to test the technical feasibility of intelligent network vehicles and self-driving cars. Tests currently cover four aspects including road conditions, vehicle efficiency, information-related services, and communication and localization ability.
