From an aerial view, the contrasting colors of autumn leaves between different trees in the shelterbelts in Fengjie County, east of Chongqing Municipality, become vividly apparent. Fengjie County, the uppermost part of the famous Three Gorges Dam, is a vital component of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. As Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed ecology and “green development” in boosting the growth of the Yangtze River Economic Belt on Jan 5 this year, the region stepped up efforts to regulate forests resources along the Dam. Efforts, including afforestation, returning the grain plots to forestry, landscape construction and building ecology shelterbelts added a vast swathe of green on the map of Chongqing.
