CHONGQING - China's southwestern municipality of Chongqing maintained rapid economic growth, posting 10.7 percent growth of GDP in 2016, the local statistics bureau announced Friday.
It outpaced the country's 6.7 percent GDP growth in 2016.
Chongqing's GDP reached 1.76 trillion yuan ($256 billion) in 2016, according to the bureau.
A boom in the electronics and auto industries, which grew by 24 percent and 11.3 percent respectively year-on-year, contributed to the growth, official data shows.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
