Shenhua Group, known as a leader in the clean energy industry, brings Liangjiang New Area into a new era of clean energy, as the company established its copper indium gallium selenide solar (CIGS) cell component project at the Liangjiang Shuitu Industrial Park on Jan 20.
With a total investment of 2.55 billion yuan ($371 million), Shenhua Group will construct two production lines for CIGS thin-film solar cells to promote the clean energy industry in Liangjiang New Area and Chongqing.

Production capacity is expected to reach 306 MWP and the annual output value will reach up to 1 billion yuan ($145 million) after the project is put into operation.
Mu Huaping, deputy mayor of Chongqing Municipality, noted that Shenhua Group’s project will boost the development of the new energy industry and photovoltaic industry in Chongqing and further accelerate the electronic information industry of Chongqing. The cooperation will promote industrial transformation and upgrading.
The CIGS cell is a thin-film solar cell used to convert sunlight into electrical power. It is manufactured by depositing a thin layer of copper, indium, gallium and selenide on glass or plastic backing, along with electrodes on the front and back to collect electrical current.
Founded in 1995, Shenhua Group is the largest coal supplier in China, and is engaged in the operation and development of resources such as coal, as well as investment and management in power generation, railways, port transportation, shipping, and thermal power.
