Liangjiang International Movie City is upgrading its management and facilities in a bid to become a national 4A scenic spot after receiving rave reviews from visitors during its first few months, the attraction’s management committee announced on March 15.
The movie city has been the hottest ticket in China this year, with an incredible four million people streaming through its gates in the 70 days since it opened on January 1.
Located at Longxing Industrial Park in Liangjiang New Area, the 120,000-square-meter model city is similar to that of the movie sets at Heng Dian Studios in Zhejiang, a unique tourist attraction, where films are also shot on location.

Efforts will be made to improve services and construct new infrastructure at the scenic area, including a tourist service center, better toilet facilities, signage, and leisure facilities.
“The spot should make further improvements to its tourism facilities to meet national standards for a 4A-rating scenic spot. Facilities including a tourist service center, parking lots, and toilets need more attention,” said Kuang Hai, an inspector from Chongqing Tourism Bureau.

Zhang Guoping, director of Yubei district tourism bureau in Chongqing, suggested that the movie city should explore local culture to realize sustainable development, and the scenic area should strengthen its management of sanitation and environmental protection and organize training sessions for the management team in the area.
The Liangjiang International Movie City will further develop creative tourism products, such as IP movies and TV plays, mascots and phone games, as well as a tourism e-commerce platform which will provide online payment services.
