Chang’an Automobile Co Ltd started construction of a global research and development center at its production base in Liangjiang’s Yufu Industrial Park on April 13.
The R&D center with an investment of 3.15 billion yuan ($460 million) is expected to be a central hub for Chang’an’s R&D centers distributed all over the world, including the United States, Britain, Italy and Japan. The center will focus on product development and experiment verification.
Chang’an Automobile also put a new factory into operation with a maximum production capacity of 360,000 vehicles. With an investment of 3.83 billion yuan, the factory covers an area of 908 mu (61 hectares). Six new auto types, such as the CS55, will be put into mass production at the factory.
Over the next three years, Chang’an Automobile will invest over 47 billion yuan on research, development and manufacturing. It aims to launch 55 types of intelligent and new energy automobiles and enter a new era of self-driving vehicles by 2025.
