The Liangjiang New Area’s Cloud Walk Technology Co recently stood out among a group of leading internet projects for its artificial intelligence (AI) public service platform. The project has become one of four key Internet Plus projects in 2017 to be approved by the National Development and Reform Commission.

Liangjiang’s AI public service platform has attracted a planned investment of 120 million yuan ($17.4 million), including national financial support in total of 30 million yuan. The platform is designed to serve national financial and public securities.

A large scale computer cluster, integrating formatted videos, audio, pictures, 3D models and geographic information, will serve as the basis for the project and incorporate a basic AI resources database providing functional analysis, such as face recognition, character recognition and online voice recognition.

Zhou Xi, founder of Cloud Walk Technology Co, said that the construction of the platform was initiated at the beginning of this year and is expected to be completed in three years.

Cloud Walk Technology Co, established in 2015, hails from the Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology of the Chinese Academy of Science. As the only facial recognition technical team at the institute, Cloud Walk has participated in a number of key state-level projects in western China.

Statistics show that Cloud Walk owns a 30 percent market share in China’s facial recognition technology industry. The company has currently signed contracts with 15 banks, including Bank of China and Bank of Chongqing.
