600m investment to fuel automotive industry in Liangjiang

Automotive supplier Continental AG has joined hands with Huayu Automotive System Co Ltd to invest in an automobile brake system project in the Chongqing Municipality.

The automobile brake system project began production in Liangjiiang New Area's Yufu Industrial Zone on May 18.

With a total investment of over 600 million yuan ($87 million), the project will focus on the production of automobile brake parts, such as brake calipers, vacuum boosters and electronic parking brake.

The second stage of the project is expected to be completed in 2020. The project aims to reach a production value of 2 billion yuan.

Since starting business in China in 1994, Continental AG has built 27 automotive production facilities for chassis, interior, powertrain and tire. Additionally, the company has opened 17 R&D centers in the country. It aims to double its China sales from 4.5 billion euros ($5.1 billion) in 2015 to 10 billion euros by 2020.

Zhang Haitao, general manager of Huayu Automotive System Co Ltd, said, "The new factory in Chongqing will help Huayu to provide better and faster service to local automobile companies and boost the automobile industry in western China."
