A charity event gathered nine local companies in the Liangjiang New Area on May 17 to support 28 poor students with a donation of 56,000 yuan ($8,132).

"We strive to be a socially responsible company and we organized this event to help families and students with financial difficulties living in the surrounding area," said Hu Chunlan, vice general manager of Yanan Hotel in the Liangjiang New Area.

The hotel also arranged a donation ceremony and a series of song and dance performances, to raise public awareness for those living a in hardship in local areas.
