The Liangjiang New Area's Longxing Industrial Development Zone announced the opening of the first parking lot project to feature an automatic guided vehicle (AGV) technology in Southwest China on June 8.

The intelligent parking lot, located near the Yulin River, will be equipped with 3,000 parking spaces. It is expected to be put into use in 2018.

The parking lot will utilize a world leading AGV robotic parking system. The laser-guided AGV system can automatically transfer a car into an available parking space within two minutes after the driver guides the car onto the automated platform.

Authorities have said that the AGV parking system lot will save urban land resources, reduce vehicle exhaust pollution and ease parking pressures to promote the sustainable development of the city.

The intelligent parking lot is part of the zone's efforts to build an intelligent ecological base for the modern services and high-end manufacturing industries.
