Adrenaline junkies can now add Chongqing to their summer destinations list, as the Chongqing Happy Valley Theme Park opened to the public on July 8.

The amusement park was built and operated by the Chongqing OTC, a part of the Overseas Chinese Town Company.

Located in the Liangjiang New Area's business and tourist zone, the park is the seventh Happy Valley theme park to be built in China, with other branches in Shenzhen, Chengdu, Wuhan and Tianjin.

Covering an area of about 500,000 square meters, the park was built along Chongqing's neighboring mountains, the only park of its kind in the country.

Wang Xiaowen, CEO of the Overseas Chinese Town Company, said, "It is the company's first attempt at building an international Happy Valley theme park in such a mountainous area with rivers, canyons and cliffs."

The park is home to a number of internationally notable rides, including the country's only mountain wing roller coaster, a 120-meter high sightseeing sky wheel, a 1,000-meter long wooden roller coaster and the 180,000-sqaure-meter Maya Beach Water Park.

Happy Valley Chongqing is composed of six themed areas–Happy Times, Fantasy Island, Hurricane Bay, Dinosaur Forest, Old Chongqing and Valley Mine Town.

The amusement park hopes to build its surrounding area into a 5A-rated scenic zone showcasing Chongqing's culture and features. The park is expected to see more than 3 million tourists in its first operational year, enriching the lives of Chongqing residents with stimulating entertainment and boosting the region's economy.
