Updated:2018-01-24

Chongqing Liangjiang New Area's Digital Economy Industrial Park was officially operational on Jan 21.

The industrial park consists of the three areas of Zhaomushan, Shuitu and Longxing, and covers a total planning area of 40.8 square kilometers.

Upon completion, it will be a digital economy cluster in Chongqing. It is estimated that by 2020, the total output value of the park will be up to 50 billion yuan ($7.81 billion).

The first group of 34 contracts was signed with a total investment of 18.32 billion yuan ($2.86 billion). Companies such as Alibaba, Baidu and China Coal Technology Engineering Group have established offices in the park. The signed projects are mainly in manufacturing, finance, modern service and technology innovation.

The park will develop a digital basic industry, a digital applied industry and a digital service industry and will promote the integrated development of big data and real economy, bringing new momentum to Chongqing's social-economic development.

The digital basic industry will depend on the existing big data platform and strengthen the resource-gathering effect of big data. Key aspects include collection, storage, cleaning, analysis, visualization and exchange of volumes of data.

China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom have all settled in the park and built national-level backbone internet direct connection points. Internet coverage has risen to 100 percent, improving the park's digital economy infrastructure.

A local official said, "We hope that by 2020, there will be more than 3,000 digital economy companies settled in the park. We will introduce and cultivate 30 leading enterprises in digital economy."

By then, the industrial park will be the main force in developing the big data economy and a national demonstration zone of digital economy.
