Chongqing Xiamei Environmental Technology Co Ltd, a renowned environmental monitoring company, will set up an R&D center in Liangjiang New Area, local media reported on March 19.

Over the past several decades China's bullish economic growth has fuelled environmental pollution. Environmental monitoring and analysis serves as the main method for detecting environmental problems, therefore environmental monitoring companies and institutions have mushroomed in recent years.

Xiamei was introduced into Liangjiang New Area last year. It's a high-tech enterprise specializing in environmental governance, technology consulting, the R&D of ecofriendly products, and environmental monitoring.

At present, its 109 environmental indexes cover five major areas –– water and wastewater, air and waste gasses, noise, soil and sediment, and living organisms.

By introducing cutting-edge equipment and building a highly professional team, Xiamei offers environmental monitoring services with great precision, and is among the top performers in the industry.

"We introduced the most sophisticated monitoring equipment and it can test for all the heavy metals in the periodic table, with a high degree of precision," said Li Shaobo, president of the company.

Take the testing of benzene for example. Instrument errors tend to occur when attempting to detect benzene because of its volatility. The error rate of Xiamei's equipment is about 50 percent lower than with traditional testing instruments.

"Our equipment is highly automated and it's more precise than the usual manual testing methods," said Li.

In addition, Xiamei invited Li Weizhou, a doctor from the Chinese Academy of Sciences to develop ecofriendly flame-retardant materials using Xiamei's research lab.

"We will set up our R&D center in Liangjiang, because the environmental protection industry holds great potential in this rapidly developed region," said Li Shaobo.

"This year we plan to provide monitoring services for more than 300 projects, bringing in production value of 18 million yuan ($2.84 million). We will do our bit to contribute to the development of Chongqing," Li added.
