A seminar themed "Large city, smart management" was held in Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area to talk about an upcoming platform for intelligent urban management, local media reported on April 18.

Tang Liangzhi, mayor of Chongqing Municipality, attended the seminar and stressed that "urban management is like embroidery craftsmanship".

"Chongqing is such a remarkable natural landscape that we must refine our urban management to bring out its beauty," said Tang.

The platform will incorporate distributed resources and mobilize local residents with intelligent real-time surveillance and all-day service.

"For instance, if a street light breaks down, our surveillance system will inform the maintenance department immediately," a platform project manager said.

"In short, we use internet of things (IoT) to coordinate infrastructure around the city," he added.

Aiming to offer refined and targeted urban management, the project is part and parcel of Chongqing's plan of becoming a smart city.

Liangjiang New Area has wrapped up construction of 30 sub-systems and the main system will be established by the end of this year.
