To popularize cloud computing technology among SMEs (small and medium enterprises), China Mobile Communications Corporation signed strategic cooperation agreements with Chongqing on Aug 24.

As the first operator in China with both a cloud service license and CDN (content delivery network) license, China Mobile focuses on the development of intellectual industry and will construct more IDC (internet data center) and cloud infrastructure to promote cloud services, said a staff member of the company.

China Mobile has launched a cloud product system and industry solution. It has formed 80 data centers around the country with the help of four preexisting national data centers and 31 provincial data centers.

The cloud services are integrated with infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS) to provide cloud network-integrated services in government, education, finance, medicine, and internet.

China Mobile will use Chongqing SMEs as prototypes in its efforts to strengthen the application of cloud computing and transition from unidirectional application to integration and collaborative innovation in company informatization.

China Mobile has cooperated with Chongqing Cloud Computing Investment & Operation Company to establish a data center. The company runs Liangjiang International Cloud Computing Industrial Park, which has attracted eight data centers with a total cost of 34.7 billion yuan ($5.1 billion) and a capacity of 68,500 servers.

Currently, six data centers in the park have been completed and put into operation. With a service capacity of 11,000 servers, the data centers serve thousands of clients in government affairs, video, gaming, finance and industry.

With an additional four ongoing projects, the park will be better able to support the digital economic industry in Chongqing and all of southwest China.
