CHONGQING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- An airport management company, jointly established by China and Singapore, commenced commercial operation at the airport in Chongqing Municipality Tuesday.
The joint venture, invested by Chongqing Airport Group and Changi Airport Group in Singapore, manages the non-aviation businesses including shopping, catering and advertising in Terminal 2 and 3 of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.
The company operates about 24,500 square meters of commercial property, 266,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor parking, with 6,690 parking spots, as well as 15,600 square meters of advertising space.
"Changi has provided valuable insights of commercial management for Chongqing to learn from," said an official from the management bureau.
Formally implemented on Jan. 8, 2016, the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity was the third inter-governmental cooperative program after China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park and China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City.
Flights linking Chongqing and Singapore have since been increased from five a week to 14 a week. Construction on a 12.5-square-km China-Singapore aviation industrial park has begun. Companies and colleges in Chongqing also carried out cooperation with Singaporean counterparts in aircraft financial leasing and aviation staff training.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
