During the ongoing 6th World Internet Conference in Wuzheng, Zhejiang province, six provinces and municipalities were selected as national digital economy innovation development pilot areas on Oct 20, including Chongqing municipality in Southwest China.
The pilot areas are expected to explore the circulation mechanism of digital economy elements, new types of production relations, as well as development models for the allocation of resources and industrial agglomeration, thus become leaders in the innovation and development of China's digital economy.
Chongqing strives to promote industrial innovation driven by big data, as well as accelerate the integration of the digital economy and the real economy to become a smart city known for smart manufacturing.
To date, over 3,000 big data related companies have settled in Chongqing and contributed to the expansion of industrial clusters for chips, liquid crystal screens, smart terminals, the Internet of Things, as well as core components in new energy and smart connected vehicles.
Around 1,000 companies in Chongqing have completed smartization transformation, and the number will reach 5,000 by 2022, with 10,000 companies to be connected with cloud platforms.
By tapping into big data's value in commercial, political, and civil use, Chongqing will accelerate the construction of smart transportation, smart medical services, smart education, and smart tourism to meet people's needs for high-quality living.
Chongqing has been promoting infrastructure construction, as well as the application and industrial development of 5G, gathering high-end innovation resources, cultivating innovative individual and companies, as well as improving related mechanisms to stimulate the digital economy.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
