Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality recently signed an agreement to construct a research, development, testing, and production center for surgical robots.
The center will establish a system to set up an operation plan in advance and realize real time visual guidance during the surgical procedure. The system has been verified by basic and clinical tests, ready to be applied in neurosurgery.
As one of the key projects introduced by the Zhongguancun Medical Engineering and Transformation Platform (Chongqing), the center is expected to generate an annual production value of 500 million yuan ($71.63 million) upon realizing mass production.
To date, the engineering and transformation platform has attracted over 40 famous medical equipment related companies, with the number expected to reach 100 by the end of this year.
Liangjiang's medical industry has maintained rapid growth in recent years, with six pharmaceutical bases and various innovation platforms forming a health industrial chain integrating high-end medical equipment, diagnostic reagents, and medical care service.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
