Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality has applied high technologies to its refuse processing, according to area officials.
They said that with the help of an online system, Liangjiang's Tianhumeizhen community realized smart management of its garbage sorting.
The system collects and analyses data, as well as managing the entire process data of garbage sorting.
This includes monitoring resident's awareness and participation in the process, as well as the variety, quantity and destination of the sorted garbage.
After registering on the system, users get points after sorting their garbage correctly, which can be used to exchange for gifts.
Taking the community's Dongfangyajun neighborhood as example, with the help of a professional refuse sorting company the neighborhood's garbage sorting awareness rate in two years has increased from less than 40 percent to 100 percent.
In addition, its participation rate in the advanced refuse collecting and sorting increased from 30 percent to 90 percent and the accuracy of locals in correctly sorting their refuse increased from 40 percent to 90 percent.
Every residential building in the neighborhood is now equipped with rubbish sorting bins, billboards and a service station.
The neighborhood has 13 garbage collection points with 23 sorting garbage bins for food waste and other waste. Recyclables can be collected by making appointments on apps or through phone calls.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
