Liangjiang New Area -- in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality -- aims to contribute to the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle development as an important gateway for opening-up the inland area, according to local officials.
They said Liangjiang will contribute to the construction of transport infrastructure in the Chengdu-Chongqing region.
The Chengdu-Chongqing middle line high-speed railway will start construction in 2020 and when completed, the distance between Chengdu and Chongqing will be shortened to 280 kilometers, taking only 50 minutes.
Elsewhere, the construction of express lanes connecting Chongqing-Chengdu Expressway with downtown areas in Chongqing and Chengdu is expected to bring more business opportunities and growth to the economic circle.
To date, around 4,500 digital economy related companies have registered in Liangjiang New Area, making the digital economy a pillar industry in the area.
Officials said Chongqing will enhance its cooperation with Chengdu to facilitate the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, as well as talent exchanges, to boost the development of the digital economy industrial cluster.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
