The Bonded Processing Base in Liangjiang New Area – located in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality -- is pushing to promote the construction of a giant laptop production facility, by innovating its policies and expanding its functions.
The base is equipped with an advanced R&D chain, industrial chain and logistics chain -- serving high-end manufacturing industries in the fields of precision components, new energy and new materials and other areas.
This will help make the area a key bonded processing center in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
As trade continues to flow from the coastal areas to Chongqing, the facility has introduced intelligent terminal manufacturing, forming an industrial system of brands, contract manufacturing and support industries.
In 2010, world's second largest laptop supplier Acer established production facilities in the area. Subsequently, Fortune 500 original design manufacturers Pegatron, Wistron and Compal set up branches in the area -- installing assembly lines with an annual capacity of 40 million units.
The area comes equipped with 430,000 square meters of accommodation for 45,000 people.
It will expand its production from laptops to desktops, tablets, mobile phones, wearables and automotive electronics.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
