To celebrate China Tourism Day, which falls on May 19 each year, Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality launched a series of activities from May 20 to 22 designed to alleviate poverty in Pengshui Miao and Tujia autonomous county.
Pengshui enjoys cool weather in summer and has abundant tourist attractions. Its exhibition booth attracted the interest of various citizens. It sent out over 2,000 brochures and 400 tickets for scenic spots.
During the activities, citizens could not only collect Pengshui's creative cultural products, but they could also enjoy discounts on scenic spot tickets by following the official WeChat account of Pengshui's tourism bureau.
Liangjiang has cooperated with tourism companies to inspect the tourism resources of Pengshui since 2019, and has invited Pengshui's government departments to promote tourism in Liangjiang.
By implementing preferential policies for tourists and promoting Pengshui's featured agricultural products, Liangjiang and Pengshui have enhanced their communication and promoted mutual tourism development.
Liangjiang has organized major A-level scenic spots and starred hotels to offer discounts for tourists from Pengshui, and has encouraged travel agencies to open traveling routes to Pengshui.
Statistics show that Liangjiang's travel agencies organized more than 2,000 tourists to visit Pengshui last year.
Currently Liangjiang is planning a free two-day tour for both Liangjiang and Pengshui's medical workers, who were sent to support Hubei province in fighting the COVID-19 outbreak.
Liangjiang will keep enhancing targeted poverty alleviation through rural tourism, and arrange various exchanges to promote mutual development in Liangjiang and Pengshui.
