The main workshop for Chinese electronics component maker BOE Technology Group Co's new AMOLED display screen production line had its roof capped in the Liangjiang New Area, in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality on July 7, area officials said.
The project started in December 2018 and is located in Liangjiang's Shuitu Development Zone, covering a floorage of 960,000 square meters.
Officials said it is self-designed, developed and built by BOE, and is Chongqing's largest super clean workshop and the world's most advanced AMOLED production line.
When it goes into operation in 2021, it will have a monthly design production capacity of 48,000 glass substrate layers, that can be applied in smart phones, vehicle equipment and laptops.
It will coordinate with BOE's other AMOLED screen production lines in Chengdu and Mianyang in Sichuan province
Local officials said it will contribute to the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing regional economic circle and improve China's competitiveness in the AMOLED and semiconductor display industries.
BOE has been involved in liquid crystal display panel production lines, backlight manufacturing projects and intelligent manufacturing production line projects in Liangjiang since 2013.
With the investment of BOE, Corning, Alpha & Omega Semiconductor and other tech giants, Liangjiang has improved its intelligent industry capabilities and modernized its industrial production and supply chain, officials said.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
