An intelligent equipment industrial park being funded by China Silian Instrument Group Co is under construction in Liangjiang New Area – located in Southwest China's municipality of Chongqing -- and will start trial production next April, according to local officials.
The project covers an area of 120 mu, or 8 hectares, and the first stage covering 53 mu started construction in 2019 with an investment of 320 million yuan ($45.7 million).
The project focuses on semiconductor sensor chips for the micro electromechanical system (MEMS), the industrial internet and advanced scientific instruments. When completed, it can produce 50,000 wafers per year, worth 600 million yuan, officials said.
They said it will also conduct development and research on semiconductor sensor chip designs, manufacturing processes and special equipment manufacturing.
With an equipment health monitoring and fault diagnosis system based on the industrial internet, the project can collect equipment data and apply machine learning, big data, artificial intelligence, internet of things and edge computing to realize whole life cycle condition monitoring, fault diagnosis and condition management for equipment.
The project is expected to help China achieve progress in MEMS sensor chip technology and manufacturing, as well as promote the entire production and supply chain and industrial cluster development of China's high-end semiconductor sensors.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
