Southwest China's Chongqing municipality and Sichuan province recently reached an agreement to launch 31 major projects, with a total investment of 556.3 billion yuan ($79.57 billion), to boost the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.
Local officials said that 19 of the projects will involve the construction of transport infrastructure with an investment of 451.6 billion yuan, including five high-speed railways, 11 expressways and express roads, as well as three shipping and hydropower projects.
Chongqing and Sichuan will also construct one comprehensive logistics park, one distribution center, one port operations area, one railway station freight yard and one cold chain project.
Another five industrial parks and holiday resorts, as well as a 5G network and one artificial intelligence fusion applications platform will be established.
Officials said Chongqing and Sichuan will confirm the construction schedule and conditions for their commencement, guarantee land and support funds and resolve problems that are encountered, to speed up the projects.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
