A promotional center for the R&D and demonstration of intelligent terminal software was recently approved for construction in Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality.
The project will receive a 170 million yuan ($24.43 million) investment to meet the development needs of terminals involving personal computers, intelligent vehicles, augmented and virtual reality and the internet of things.
By establishing software adaptation verification centers, the project will form an industrial chain for technology R&D, achievement verification and application promotion, thus creating a solid industrial ecosystem.
The center is also expected to enhance the fostering of software talents, boost the integration of enterprise resources with vocational schools and universities and form an environment that advances the sustainable development of the software industry.
Once completed, the project will train at least 3,000 experts in related fields.
According to Director Shang Mingsheng of the big data center at Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Liangjiang's intelligent terminal industrial chain and related talents and technologies make the area an ideal location for the promotional center.
As one of the districts focusing on digital economy growth in Chongqing, Liangjiang aims to become a pilot area for the development of the national digital economy and innovation in the field of artificial intelligence.
During the first half of this year, seven universities established themselves in Liangjiang Coordinative Zone, bringing the total number of scientific research institutes in the zone to 24. Meanwhile, Liangjiang's Digital Economy Industrial Park has attracted approximately 5,000 digital economy companies, achieving remarkable revenue.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
