Global Data Solutions Ltd (GDS), a famous information technology infrastructure service provider in Singapore, started building a data center in Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area on Sept 25. The facility will strengthen the flow of information between Chongqing and Singapore and speed up Chongqing's digital economy.
The data center that the two parties agreed to co-build at the 2019 Smart China Expo covers an area of 74 mu (4.93 hectares) and will include multiple platforms involving big data service, big data value-added service and big data interconnection service. It will also provide domestic and international customers with services such as internet data centers, content delivery networks and cloud computing big data.
According to the plan, the data center will attract more high-quality and high-value data enterprises, meet the international information interaction needs of the city's cross-border enterprises and accelerate the development of the city's smart industry. It will also become a global information communication hot spot serving Chongqing and its surrounding areas.
Currently, GDS has 59 data centers that are under construction or have been put into operation in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and has served over 670 companies.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
