Representatives of the electronic information industry in Southwest China's Sichuan province and Chongqing municipality signed a series of cooperation agreements on Oct 29 in Sichuan's Yibin city to co-build an electronic information industry economic corridor.
The project involves the cooperation of government departments in Sichuan and Chongqing, industrial associations and companies. When built, the area will become a significant national electronic information industrial base and a global R&D center for electronic information.
Last year, the electronic information industry's primary business income exceeded 1 trillion yuan ($149.45 billion) in Sichuan and 700 billion yuan in Chongqing. The collaboration will help industrial clusters in both areas to benefit from each other's strengths.
In the future, Sichuan and Chongqing will focus on cooperating in the critical fields of integrated circuits, new-type displays, big data, the internet of things, cloud computing, information security, the Beidou Navigation Satellite System and intelligent manufacturing.
Sichuan and Chongqing will establish a cooperation mechanism to enhance industrial supporting facilities, promote R&D of new technologies, develop characteristic industrial clusters, build a platform for cooperation and exchange and strengthen personnel training collaboration.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
