High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) equipment made in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, was shipped to Mexico and Nigeria for the first time on Dec 2.
So far, Liangjiang's HIFU equipment has been exported to 28 countries and regions and treated 150,000 cases of benign and malignant tumors.
Focused ultrasound surgery (FUS) is an ultrasound non-invasive therapy technology initially researched and developed by China.
HIFU is China's first FUS equipment with completely independent intellectual property rights. It has been recognized internationally after 21 years of development.
At the delivery ceremony for the HIFU equipment, Ajayi Abayomi Bolaji, CEO of Nordica Fertility Centre in Nigeria, said via a video connection that HIFU equipment can treat myoma of the uterus and adenomyosis, which are very common among African women.
The biopharmaceutical industry is considered one of the pillar industries in Liangjiang. Currently, Liangjiang has attracted R&D centers and industrialization bases of various biopharmaceutical companies such as Chongqing Huapont Pharm Co and Chongqing Haifu Medical Technology Co, as well as over 50 biomedicine-related institutions.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
