Guoyuan port in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, has increased cooperation with ports in Sichuan province. More than 3 million metric tons of bulk commodities are transported to Sichuan annually.
Guoyuan port has two freight trains depart to Weiyuan county in Neijiang, Sichuan province, every day. The train route started regular operation back in 2018 and has transported more than 1.5 million tons of iron ore to Sichuan since the beginning of this year.
When returning, the trains transport steel coils manufactured in Sichuan's Panzhihua city. This year, more than 400,000 tons of steel coils have been transported to Liangjiang, most of which were then distributed to other cities in China via the Yangtze River.
Since the beginning of this year, Guoyuan port has transferred 2.4 million tons of coal, 4 million tons of steel, 650,000 tons of chromium ore and 1.5 million tons of iron ore across the country, becoming a distribution center for bulk commodities in Southwest China.
With Liangjiang's location advantages, Guoyuan port has realized connections between water, railway and road infrastructure to transport goods from China's interior to coastal areas in the east, the Yangtze River Economic Belt, Europe and South Asia.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
