With the opening of two giant commercial complexes on Dec 25, Liangjiang New Area's consumer market looks to further recover from the impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
The latest data shows that from Nov 20 to Dec 20, Liangjiang's commercial complexes and shopping centers achieved total sales of 610 million yuan ($93.42 million), a year-on-year increase of 4.8 percent.
During the first three quarters of this year, areas directly administered by Liangjiang had total social good retail sales of 42.83 billion yuan, which is impressive considering the influence of the pandemic on the international market.
Since the beginning of this year, Liangjiang has innovated in stimulating the consumer market by releasing coupons, holding shopping festivals and organizing online promotion events.
Liangjiang also aims to develop the nighttime economy to expand consumer demand.
Chongqing's first 24-hour shopping center opening in May in Liangjiang and has achieved great success. During the National Day holiday, the center's nighttime sales occupied 24 percent of the total sales, while 41 percent of the total sales was contributed by online retail.
Liangjiang has attracted several commercial centers to strengthen the integration of online and offline sales. It has also continued to develop Chongqing into an international hub city for shopping.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
