The 1,094 manufacturing companies above a designated size – those with annual revenue of 20 million yuan or more – in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality achieved a total output value of 210.1 billion yuan in 2020, which is the first time that the number has exceeded 200 billion yuan.
The manufacturing industry's added value increased by 2.9 percent year-on-year in 2020, and the export delivery value was 11.1 billion yuan, rising 15.8 percent year-on-year.
Last year, Chongqing's various manufacturing-related industries developed into industrial clusters with a production chain covering overall units, components and systems integration. These industries included wind-generated electricity, rail transit and environmental protection equipment.
Chongqing's year-on-year output value increase was 16.7 percent for electrical machinery, 7.7 percent for special equipment, 6.2 percent for transportation equipment manufacturing, 5.7 percent for metal products and 1.7 percent for general equipment.
CSIC (Chongqing) Haizhuang Windpower Equipment Co, Chongqing's leading manufacturing company headquartered in Liangjiang New Area, saw both its business revenue and contract value exceed 10 billion yuan in 2020.
The company has more than 20 supporting enterprises in Chongqing and accelerated the overall development of the wind power industrial chain.
Chongqing's manufacturing industry also saw a rise in its innovation abilities and intellectualization level. In 2020, the total R&D investment of Chongqing's manufacturing companies above a designated size was about 7 billion yuan, involving 25,000 research personnel, nine national-level enterprise technology centers and 125 municipal-level ones.
Meanwhile, Chongqing's manufacturing industry invested about 20 billion yuan for intellectualized reconstruction in 2020, driving the output value of Chongqing's intelligent equipment industry to exceed 30 billion yuan.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
