During this year's Spring Festival holiday from Feb 11 to 17, Liangjiang New Area experienced a surge in sales revenues, especially in information consumption related to telecommunications, radio and television and satellite transmission services, which increased by 352.8 percent year-on-year.
Information consumption covers multiple services, including information services, application services and e-commerce. As Chongqing encouraged people to stay home for Spring Festival, people leaving the municipality during the holiday decreased by 19.5 percent compared with last year, and more people spent their time online.
Several scenic spots in Liangjiang explored online services – such as livestreaming and online promotions – to help digitalize the area's culture and tourism industry. Liangjiang's culture and entertainment consumption increased by 478.9 percent year-on-year during the holiday.
To encourage consumers to purchase goods online, Liangjiang's department stores, supermarkets and catering companies expanded their online sales and delivery services.
During the holiday, Liangjiang's catering revenue increased by 409.3 percent year-on-year, and the revenue of the online catering delivery industry was 10 times the same period last year.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
