To celebrate the 39th World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, Liangjiang's bureau of market supervision launched a themed campaign to promote safe consumption. The event was held at a JD appliances experience shop, with an aim to foster a positive environment where honest operation, fair trade and the legal protection of consumers' rights are honored.
Ten companies, including Chongqing Jingdong Trade Co, Chengdu Fresh Hema Co and METRO Commerce Group Co, were granted special plaques to acknowledge the active roles they have played in safeguarding consumers' rights and handling online claims.
"We have been promoting the 12315 online platform since last year, it was established to deal with feedback from consumers during and after the shopping process," said Wang Lifeng, head of the consumer protection division at Liangjiang's bureau of market supervision.
An information desk was also set up at the event, where officials from the bureau were informing citizens about why it is important and necessary for consumers to protect themselves. They also offered practical solutions to specific problems that consumers have experienced.
"Campaigns like this are really friendly to elderly people, we get to know how to protect ourselves and enhance our legal awareness," said a local citizen.
In addition to the campaign, Liangjiang's government also designed quizzes and brochures to share commonly asked questions and information on Consumer Law.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
