The 15th China Electronics & Information Technology Conference kicked off on April 17 in Liangjiang New Area, in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality.
More than 30 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering – as well as experts from the fields of electronics and information technology – are attending the ongoing conference, to discuss developments in the country's electronics and information technology sectors and proffer their opinions about Liangjiang's industrial development.
The conference was first held in 1962 and is widely regarded as the primary indicator of the direction of China's electronics and IT development, as well as being respected for its authority and technical expertise.
This year's conference includes one main forum and 21 thematic forums covering the areas of intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence, the internet of vehicles and space communications.
According to a senior official of the Chinese Institute of Electronics, the conference has not only invited experts to discuss technology issues, but is also focusing on Chongqing's key industries in order to help boost regional economic development.
Representatives from Baidu, Tencent, Alibaba, Meituan and Changan Auto are due to attend the conference's summit forums, to share their success experience in electronics and information technology.
As one of Chongqing's pillar industries, electronics and information technology's added value increased by 13.9 percent year-on-year in 2020.
Being the core area of Chongqing's electronics and information technology industrial layout, Liangjiang New Area has formed an important industrial cluster for integrated circuits and new types of electronic displays.
During the first quarter of this year, the output value of Liangjiang's auto industry soared by 130 percent year-on-year, while the electronic industry's output value increased by 40.7 percent year-on-year.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
