According to the information office of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality achieved 599.53 billion yuan ($92.28 billion) of GDP during the first quarter of this year, increasing 18.4 percent year-on-year.
The added value of the primary industry was 34.46 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.5 percent; the added value of the secondary industry was 215.23 billion yuan, increasing 24.7 percent; and the added value of the tertiary industry was 349.84 billion yuan, increasing 15.5 percent year-on-year.
The added value of Chongqing's industrial companies above the designated value – those with annual sales of 20 million yuan or more – increased by 35.4 percent compared with the same period last year. Among which, pillar sectors such as the auto industry increased by 60.9 percent year-on-year, the motorcycle industry increased by 35.1 percent year-on-year and the electronic industry increased by 56.3 percent year-on-year.
Thanks to heavy investment, the added value of Chongqing's high-tech manufacturing industry increased by 49.1 percent year-on-year. In the first quarter of this year, Chongqing's investment in the high-tech manufacturing industry increased by 31.3 percent, occupying 31.7 percent of the total investment in the manufacturing industry.
From January to February, Chongqing's internet service enterprises above a designated sized saw a year-on-year increase of 50.4 percent in business revenue, while software and information technology service enterprises' business revenue increased by 80.1 percent year-on-year.
As the pandemic's impact eases in China, the consumer market is recovering and service consumption is increasing. In the first quarter of this year, Chongqing's total retail sales of consumer goods were 337.88 billion yuan, rising 41.7 percent year-on-year.
In addition, Chongqing's per capita disposal income was 9,603 yuan, increasing 13.2 percent year-on-year. Among which, the per capita disposable income of urban permanent residents was 12,462 yuan, and the per capita disposable income of rural permanent residents was 5,149 yuan.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
