A commendation event was held in the Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's municipality of Chongqing on May 6, to celebrate the Youth Day which took place two days previously – a festival that prizes the commitment of youngsters to the founding and development of China.
The meeting conferred awards on selected young people and social groups for their contributions to the new area.
The awards reportedly recognized the personal qualities of career loyalty, innovation, diligence, patriotism and honesty of the individuals who were honored.
Tao Shixiang, vice-secretary of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Party Work Committee, delivered a speech to the meeting, in which he expressed his expectation that young people learn from the Party's glorious history and follow in its footsteps. He also urged the younger generations to integrate their ambitions with Liangjiang’s development goals.
Liangjiang has been making great efforts to nurture its young leaders, taking them to the red education bases and red historic sites. The local government has also made a series of videos to popularize the Party's stories.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
