The Ministry of Commerce issued a list of 30 15-minute community-life circle pilot zones on Aug 30. Liangjiang New Area was included on the list as the only pilot zone in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality.
The 15-minute community-life circle allows community residents to obtain daily necessities and basic life services within a 15-minute walk.
According to a document released jointly by 12 departments of the central government, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the 15-minute community-life circle pilot zones will be selected from among cities with appropriate conditions.
Five communities in Liangjiang will take the lead in building such life circles. By 2025, the circles will cover at least 25 communities in 80 percent of Liangjiang's eight sub-districts.
Businesses in the life circles that serve people's basic needs will be prioritized in the construction project.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
