Chongqing Gangwu Logistics Group and Sichuan Port and Shipping Investment Group, two port logistics titans in Chongqing municipality and Sichuan province in Southwest China, signed a cooperation agreement on Sept 2, pledging to promote the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and coordinate efforts to utilize the shipping and logistics resources of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, which has been hailed as China's golden waterway.
The joint venture company to be founded by the two sides will reportedly be committed to raising the service quality of port shipping, multi-model transport, and comprehensive logistics.
Guoyuan port, located in Liangjiang New Area and run by Chongqing Gangwu Logistics Group, is China's largest inland port that supports multi-model transport, while Sichuan Port and Shipping Investment Group controls ports in Luzhou, Yibin, Leshan, Nanchong, and Guang'an. The two companies will combine their strengths and extend operations in container shipping and supporting services involved in port logistics.
The two logistics giants will work together to ensure the steady operation of routes between Luzhou, Wuhan, Shanghai, Yibin, and Chongqing and optimize the shipping layout in Chongqing and Sichuan.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
