"Liangjiang New Area has undergone so many changes in the past several years. Now we can go out and take part in activities organized by the community's elderly service station or appreciate natural landscapes and exercise at the park. I feel totally refreshed when I walk around," said Liu Manxia, a senior citizen in Liangjiang.
Aged 76, Liu chose to live alone after her husband passed away. Without children's being around very often, she can still enjoy her senior years in the green environment created by the Liangjiang government.
The new area now boasts 119 distinctive parks, such as Zhaomu Mountain Forest Park and Jinhaiwan Riverside Park, with the green coverage rate reaching 45.14 percent, ranking highly in the western part of China.
After enabling the elderly to see doctors more conveniently, the government is currently aiming to further increase their quality of life by creating a multi-level elderly care system based on at-home care, dependent on community elderly services, and complemented by professional nursing homes.
There are seven elderly care institutions, nine senior care service firms, and four integrated care institutes in Liangjiang. The community's healthcare service center regularly arranges free physical examination and diagnosis services for residents in need.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
