The second Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway officially started construction in Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality on Sept 26.
The railway will start from Liangjiang's Chongqing North Railway Station, passing through Chongqing Science City, Tongliang district, and Dazu district in Chongqing, then through Anyue county, Lezhi county, and Jianzhou New City in Southwest China's Sichuan province, before terminating at the Chengdu Railway Station.
The railway will support speeds of 350 kilometers per hour and transport 32 million people per year.
It will reduce the time needed to travel between Chongqing and Chengdu to less than an hour, and attract more talent, capital, technology and innovation resources to Liangjiang.
Liangjiang currently has eight railways, including the Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway, Chongqing-Wanzhou high-speed railway, Chongqing-Suining railway, Lanzhou-Chongqing railway, Chongqing-Lichuan railway, Xiangyang-Chongqing railway, and Chongqing-Huaihua railway.
Liangjiang has been devoted to the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, accelerating transportation facility construction, enhancing communications between different areas, and building an efficient comprehensive transportation system.
Liangjiang will cooperate with Sichuan's Chengdu, Tianfu New Area, Guang'an city and Linshui county, as well as Chongqing's Changshou and Fuling districts to connect more areas via high-speed railway or inter-city railway, shortening travel time between closely connected cities to less than an hour.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
