The opening ceremony of a national post-doctoral forum was held in the Liangjiang Coordinative Zone on Oct 14. Aiming to hold discussions on how to build China into a manufacturing powerhouse, the forum focused on hot issues and basic sciences in the new materials field, and demonstrated the latest innovation achievements of the field.
Wu Feng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at the Beijing Institute of Technology, Yan Guo, professor at the Northwest Institute for Non-Ferrous Metal Research, and Wang Jionghui, vice general manager of China Minmetals Corporation, delivered keynote reports at the ceremony.
He Zhenguo, deputy director of the Chongqing Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Department, said that Chongqing is now becoming a more attractive place for post doctors to work or start businesses. Liangjiang New Area plays a dominant role in it and has established 38 post-doctoral research centers. Last year, the new area introduced more post doctors, ranking highly among other regions of Chongqing in this regard.
On behalf of Liangjiang, Li Jie, vice-director of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee, said that the government hopes to establish closer and multi-level partnerships with post doctors, and welcomes responsible high-tech enterprises, talents and research institutes to settle in Liangjiang.
Four sub-forums were also held that afternoon, involving new energy and advanced energy storage materials, lightweight equipment, security and protection materials, and advanced structural metallic materials used in aviation and aerospace.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
