The Longxing Tunnel in Liangjiang New Area – a major municipal project in Southwest China's Chongqing – is set to open to traffic soon, according to reports from Chongqing Daily on Jan 10.
The six-lane two-way tunnel is 5.35 kilometers long and has a designed travel speed of 60 kilometers per hour.
The tunnel will directly serve residents in Longsheng area, Tangjiatuo area, and the Chongqing Airport Industrial Park. It previously took Longsheng area residents nearly half an hour to get to the airport, but the tunnel will reduce that time to just 15 minutes.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
